NuAspect Limited have recently been asked to provide management and engineering resources to support Thales Rail Signalling Solutions Limited’s installation and testing works for the Phase 3 extension of the Manchester Metrolink.
Thales are installing a new Tram Management System (TMS) as part of the M-Pact Consortium, composed of Laing O’Rourke, VolkerRail and the Thales Group, which was appointed to design, build and maintain the 20 miles (32 km) of new line plus a new depot at Old Trafford.
TMS is a new signalling system which will replace the current ATS/VRS equipment which was used on the first and second phase lines to Altrincham, Bury and Eccles.
The weekend of 2nd and 3rd March 2013 saw the successful and safe commissioning of Phase 2 of the Neasden Depot Upgrade Project (NDUP), including the use of the new shed roads, plus Roads 104 & 106.
This commissioning is a culmination of 17 months of hard work and commitment allowing the new sheds and capacity to be made available to London Underground for the maintenance and stabling of its new fleet of S stock trains.
